Dear Concerned Citizen: Abercrombie & Associates is a research and consulting service designed to educate the public on the nature of alcoholism and the devastating effects alcohol abuse is having on our society: We support the theory that alcoholism is a primary disease predetermined by physiological factors rather than psychological factors and that it should be treated as a medical problem instead of a moral problem. We believe that the only way to cure this disease is through a spiritual revolution. On the other hand, alcohol abuse is caused by irresponsible behavior, unlimited access to alcohol, excessive advertising and other environmental instigators. This scourge can only be purged through new community strategies that include prevention, intervention and advocacy. It has been brought to our attention that there are several legal establishments within the African-American community, selling alcoholic beverages to underage children. This practice has to stop! We will use all of our resources to identify these establishments and have their privileges revoked, have them appropriately penalized or prosecuted according to the law. The time has come for our community to establish and implement an independent system to monitor those responsible for enforcing the existing rules and regulations governing the distribution of alcoholic beverages. The present system of complaints and appeals is thoroughly inadequate. We at Abercrombie & Associates see a fair, just and safe society where community partnerships are restoring hope by embracing a balance of prevention, intervention and advocacy.
